1 MILE NORTH PRESS KIT THINGY
“Glass Wars” and “Minor Shadows” will be reissued on vinyl this Fall!!!
1 Mile North is an ambient / post-rock duo consisting of multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Hills and keyboardist Mark Bajuk. The band has a new album,”Awakened by Decay” slated for release in November and has previously released two full-length albums, “Glass Wars” in 2001, “Minor Shadows” in 2003 along with a split with Colophon (Jefre Cantu-Ledesma) and The Wind-Up Bird 2004. All three albums have only been available on CD and are currently out of print.
The band’s music has been featured in Steven Okazaki‘s Oscar Nominated documentary The Conscience of Nhem En, as well as Okazaki’s White Light/Black Rain: The Destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Music was also featured within the score of 2013’s Facing Fear, a documentary from Jason Cohen nominated for an Oscar in 2014.
Wortcunner Records is proud to present 1 Mile North’s “Glass Wars” & “Minor Shadows” on vinyl for the very first time; both albums have been remastered by James Plotkin for a crisp, expansive sound. 180 gram colored vinyl is packaged in deluxe gatefold jackets, limited to 300 copies each and include a high quality digital download. All 1 Mile North tracks from the Music Fellowship compilation have been included on the D side of “Minor Shadows” and four previously unreleased songs become bonus material for the D side to “Glass Wars”.
A delicate balance of restrained minimalism and evocative six string impressions, 1 Mile North conjures up cinematic soundscapes for quiet introspection and late night nostalgia. Sedentary guitar loops and soft synth swells create backgrounds that drift with atmosphere, while subtly placed samples, suffused with melancholy, add depth and sentiment.

Available for the first time on vinyl since it’s release in 2001, this double LP features a high gloss finish, gatefold jacket and heavyweight 180 gram clear colored vinyl. Photos from the recording period span the interior of the jacket and the entire album has been remastered by James Plotkin for ultimate appreciation on vinyl.
The D side of this contemplative album contains unearthed material of old “sketches” and live recordings from 1998 to 2002, which were recorded in a Brooklyn sweater factory apartment. Some are cuts that never made it onto the first two albums, and others reflect recordings and improv sessions grabbed during rehearsals. The quality on these is raw and the playing is loose, the background noise of roommates, dishes, and doors creates a backdrop to everything worked on during that time. Limited to 300 copies and includes a high quality digital download.
